Escalate an idea into a project

Escalation is the handoff from an intake signal to a governed evaluation. It creates a project from the idea instead of asking the team to copy its context into a blank project.

Before you start

• Confirm the idea is sufficiently clear and not a duplicate.

• The idea should not already be Declined or Escalated to project.

• You need permission and plan capacity to create a project.

Step by step

1. Review the evidence

Open the idea and check its description, custom board answers, process area, impact, frequency, votes and comments. Resolve material questions before escalating.

2. Set an honest working status

Use Reviewing while assessing the opportunity or In progress when active investigation has begun. Status communicates triage state but does not itself create project work.

3. Select Escalate to project

Use the action beside Status. Disqovr creates the project, links it back to the source idea and redirects you to the new project.

4. Complete Define

Review the project name and inherited problem, then complete its foundation, team, success criteria, capabilities, RFP inputs and incumbent where applicable.

5. Confirm the handoff

Return to the idea if needed. It now shows Escalated to project with a View project link, so contributors can follow progress without creating another project.

What happens next

• Choose the project evaluation approach and confirm its stages.

• Invite the internal project members who will define and evaluate the need.

Troubleshooting

Escalate to project is not available.

It is hidden after an idea is declined or already escalated. Also confirm your role can create projects and the workspace has project capacity.

Escalation reports an error instead of opening the project.

Refresh the idea to check whether the project was created despite a navigation interruption. If not, verify plan limits and project-creation permission before retrying.

The new project does not contain enough detail.

Only reliable idea context can carry forward. Use Project setup to add success criteria, capabilities, organisational context, owners and dates before external activity.
